A couple days before Memorial Day we went with the scouts to Dayton National Military Cemetery for the annual grave decoration. We helped place over 27,000 flags.

Spring has Sprung!
One of my favorite trees for their bloom. The Red Bud. They don't get very big but their blooms are brilliant.
And with the blooms of spring comes some nuts. This one dressed him self. It's warm enough for shorts but he still felt the need for winter boots. Napoleon Dynamite anyone? When he first went out I had to make him take his hood out from under his helmet.

More AMH photos
One stop along the way is Sitka. The town is about 7 miles away, so we walked down to the beach and turn rocks over and look for sea life. It is abundant! You could catch thousands of crabs, star fish and other things. We all had a great time. This is a very small star fish Justice is holding.
The m/v Columbia docked in Sitka.

Haines Alaska
We started our time on the ferry in Haines. It was beautiful. It reminds me of Seward, but much smaller. No where in town will you here the words, "Welcome to McDonalds, may I take your order?" That's good and bad, nothing is cheap. Loaf of bread was $4.95, milk was $5.69 gal. Eggs were almost $6 a dozen. You can see the town in the back ground.
We tried to get down to the water to check the tide pools for wild life. Not much was found.
Great photo. What can be said?
The kids with the m/v Columbia approaching port to pick us up.
There were two elevators in the belly of the beast. We rode up just after this one went up. We were all pretty amazed.

Matanuska Glacier
We had to stop for a picture here and lunch. I think Cathy and I stopped here the first time we drove out of Alaska in 1991.
